The Omaha Friends of Jung Presents
Jung and Intuition with Nathalie Pilard

An Online Presentation

The Omaha Friends of Jung are proud to offer a discussion with Nathalie Pilard, author of Jung and Intuition. If you are an active member of the reading group then you are familiar with this book, but if not, here is a short synopsis.

On the Centrality and Variety of Forms of Intuition in Jung and Post-Jungians

Did you know that there are 12 categories of intuition in the works of Jung and post-Jungians? Did you know Jung considered the conscious, the unconscious, and the under-conscious in his early development of intuition? Nathalie Pilard persuasively shows that intuition is at the heart of Jung’s psychology. It is central to his concept of the archetypes as well as to his understanding of the under-conscious and active imagination. It also involves both clinical and philosophical approaches, as powerfully demonstrated by his pioneering work at the Burghölzli Klinik in Zürich.

Nathalie’s book bridges the concepts of Intuition from its early development in the 19th century under the emerging science of psychology and its eventual culmination in Carl Jung’s work. It approaches this development in parts which represent certain eras of development.

  • Part 1 – Jung’s Notion of Intuition and its Contexts in his Psychology

Attachment research indicates that patterns of defenses and coping in our earliest relationships tend to persist and can lead to difficulties in relationships with partners in adulthood. The presentation will outline primary attachment patterns as discovered by the pioneers in attachment research as well as implications in partner relationships. Participants will come to understand how the therapist’s mentalizing state can help facilitate movement toward earned security.

Participants will be able to…

  1. Identify typical characteristics of attachment security.
  2. Identify automatic relationship defenses and patterns associated with preoccupied and dismissive patterns.
  3. Identify the mental health risks associated with attachment dissociation.
  4. Identify language that can be used to help clients gain insight into their own attachment patterns.
  5. Name characteristics of the therapist’s mentalizing state.
